New on the Add-ons & Extras page: the GCA4 Clear Virtual Store app. Windows Vista and Windows 7 do some odd things, one of which is to use a virtual store to store data that is written/read from the Program Files folders, rather than allowing applications to actually write into that location. This is supposed to enhance security, but what frequently happens instead is that you see odd behavior as Windows accesses old, outdated data in the background, hiding from you that it's not actually reading, or writing to, the files that you think you're accessing in the application. We have created the GCA Clear Virtual Store app to clear out the virutal store for GCA data, which may be getting loaded instead of more current data. In order to use this app correctly, it must be installed into the same folder as the GCA4.EXE file is, so we wrapped it into an installer of its own. Run the setup program, and you should get a program called GCAClearVirtualStore.exe installed into your GCA folder. You will also get a link to run that program (called GCA4 Clear Virtual Store) installed into your Start menu, under All Programs, in the GURPS Character Assistant 4 group. To Install: Downlaod the GCA4 Clear Virtual Store app: gca4cvs_setup.exe. Save it to a known location. Then, navigate to the icon, right-click on it, and choose "Run as administrator" to launch it. |

GCA 4 Reference & Tutorial--2007 Update PDF [3.9 MB] This is the text and graphics for updated help files I prepared for GCA back in 2007, as a single, complete PDF file. Unfortunately, this was sent to SJGames for editing and was never heard from again, so it's not currently in GCA, and will be out-dated in some areas (although it's more current than the current help files included with GCA). |

This site has now been reworked to include my support for GCA4 from Steve Jackson Games. The material here is of my own creation, and should not be considered to be "official" unless I mark it as such. Documentation found here has not gone through editing at SJGames. As a result, you may find typos or other errors. You may also find the writing style to be much more casual. Best of all, you don't have to wait months and months for me to be able to post updates, since it can't get stuck "in editing". For those of you looking for the large volume of content previously available here for GCA2/3, it's been pushed one level down, to here. Things may be a bit mismatched and disjointed here for a while, as updating the various parts of the site to match in style and construction is being done in my limited free time. |

The material presented here is my original creation, intended for use with GURPS Character Assistant from Steve Jackson Games. This material is not official and is not endorsed by Steve Jackson Games. However, since I wrote GURPS Character Assistant, and continue to maintain and improve it, I think that this material is pretty solid. In the case of items that are marked as being a part of the GCA package, the versions here are updated from the versions included with GCA, and will likely appear in some form with an update of GCA in the future.
